10 Things why Vinegar is important in the kitchen

You all may know that there are certain condiments in the kitchen you can’t live without. Either to dress your salad, or to enhance the flavor of your sauce or to give an extra oomph to your food creations. This could save you from shame to stardom, if you know how & where you should use it. So the question is …why is important to get around the kitchen with Vinegar?

In my opinion try to find a place in your kitchen cabinet or store cupboard for Vinegar as it can make miracles now that I will give you some tips why.

1. Enhance Flavours

When preparing soup or tomato sauce, add 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar to the soup or sauce during the end of the cooking procedure.

2. Help Over salted Foods

Add 1 teaspoon of vinegar and 1 teaspoon of sugar , then reheat the dish or sauce

3. Wash Vegetables and Fruits

Due to pesticides sprays. Mix 2 ½ tbp of vinegar in 1 gallon of water and use the mixture to wash the outsides of fruits and vegetables before peeling or slicing into them.

4. Stop Food Discoloring

If you add 1 to 2 tsp of vinegar to the water you are boiling potatoes in, they will not discolor for a longer period (watch my video clip for perfect boiled potatoes)

5. Do the great mash potato trick

Once you have mashed the potatoes and added the hot milk, try adding 1 teaspoon of vinegar and beat a little bit more. It will fluff the potatoes up and they will hold their shape.

6. Helps Firm Gelatin

In warmer weather, gelatin tends to lose its shape. Just add 1 teaspoon of vinegar to the gelatin to keep it firm.

7. Coagulate your poached Eggs

If you add 1 to 2 teaspoons of vinegar in the water before you whisk the water and simmer to add your poached eggs. The vinegar will help coagulate the eggs to form a nice round shape.

8. Crust on your Bread

If you would like the crust on your fresh baked bread to have a great sheen, brush the top of the bread with vinegar just about 5 minutes before the bread has finished baking.

9. Peeling Fish & Crustaceans

To peel more easily your King Prawns or any other similar type of crustacean just add 2 teaspoons of vinegar in water and leave the King Prawns for 5 minutes, then peel easily.

10. Stabilize the color of your Vegetables

When you steam or boil your vegetables add 2 teaspoons of vinegar to the boiling water it will prevent unwanted odors and stabilize the color of your vegetables.

These are some good tips known to be handy if you are getting around the kitchen… don’t forget your vinegar
