As a chef one of the most important things you learn at the catering school is not just how you cut vegetables and how to cook a nice sauce… far from that. It’s the Hygiene and Storage that are vital in a chef’s career and also in our homes. Yeah, by keeping our cutting boards, knives, kitchen gadgets and storage containers always clean you’ll prevent any illnesses to happen to you and your kids. Then there is the storage/stock part which many people because of the rush & hectic life we live in they have not time for that.

Bad Fridge Storage

But storage is as important as anything else because it can damage your food instantly e.g raw meats have to be stored in the bottom shelf of your fridge as if you store them on the top shelf blood can drop onto other foods and will cause serious harm. Other food ingredients like onions, leeks & garlic should be always stored in a tight covered container or with cling film, this to prevent your fridge to smell like an onion soup. Important to cover everything you put in the fridge, it takes few seconds to do that.

My advice to you is to make a system in for your storage areas. Make a list of the items/ingredients of Fridge Food, Dry Foods & Freezer Foods that you have to consume and organize them properly as this prevents over stocking and F.I.F.O (First In First Out) system is applied so expiry foods dates are monitored.
