First of all I would like to say HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to my mum as 80% of the work in our house comes from her. She really supports me & inspires me to create new dishes for this blog. My wishes goes also to all the Mums in the world, that might spend some quality time with their families in this special day.

For this years Mother’s Day I decided to give a surprise to my mum. As my mum is deeply in love (have a craze) with nutella (like 99% who are reading this) and fruit I created this Strawberry and Nutella Hearts shaped biscuits. We all know that strawberries & chocolate are a top notch marriage. But as Nutella chocolate is not a condiment that you aren’t going to see in many recipes, I was willingly to test the Nutella out for this Mother’s day Strawberry and Nutella Hearts recipe.

Together with this, I wanted to use less sugars and butter both pastry and filling. As a healthy food blogger, I create these original recipes so you can benefit health wise. My Yogurt & Vanilla pastry was a good match for the strawberry & nutella filling. But personally the most intrigue ingredient for this recipe is the hot chili powder that goes in the stuffing. You might say what the hell is chili powder doing in a dessert recipe?. Well I tell you this for those of you who are afraid to experiment, why don’t you try to sprinkle a pinch of chili powder on your favourite chocolate bar right now to test it out. You will see what I mean. I advise you to even try chocolate out with curry… it tastes amazing. Spices gives chocolate a nice kick to the sweetness.

With the add of hot chili powder in the stuffing you’ll end up with a nice piquant after taste of these biscuits.

Strawberry and Nutella Hearts

Ingredients

Yogurt & Vanilla Pastry…

250g plain yogurt
500g flour
1 1/2 vanilla pods
1 orange zest
1/2 juice of orange
2 tbsp caster sugar
100g butter
1/2 tsp of ground ginger
some milk to bind the dough

Strawberry & Nutella Stuffing…

200g fresh strawberries
1 small jar nutella
some hot chili powder/cayenne pepper

Method for Strawberry and Nutella Hearts

Yogurt & Vanilla Pastry…

- In a food processor cream the butter & sugar together. Do not over soften.

- Gradually add the sieved flour to the creamed mixture.

- Mix together the yogurt, ground ginger, orange juice & zest and the vanilla seeds.

- Pour into the food processor till it forms a dough.

- Add some milk to bind the dough if the dough is still dry.

-  Cover & rest for few minutes before use.

Strawberry & Nutella Stuffing…

- On a chopping board using a chef’s knife chop finely the washed strawberries

- Lay out the yogurt & vanilla pastry with a rolling pin to a 1/2 inches thick on floured surface.

- With the heart shaped cutter, cut even pieces.

- Transfer 1/2 of the heart shaped pastries onto a silpat or a greaseproof paper in a flat oven tray.

- Spread some nutella chocolate with a small spatula in the middle of the heart shapes.

- Add the hot chilli powder on the nutella & then with a teaspoon sprinkle some the fine chopped strawberries on the nutella.

- Brush the ends of the heart shapes with some milk, then cover with the remaining heart shaped pastries.

- Bake in a pre-heated oven (see Recipe Index Above)

- Before serving dust with icing sugar.
